GP Rating is a Six months Pre-Sea Training Program approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. The training comprises of theoretical and Practical study of General Ship Knowledge and Marine Engineering Knowledge which gives the successful trainees an opportunity to join the merchant shipping in the Deck or Engineering Department as a Trainee GP Rating.

STCW stands for the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). It sets minimum training and certification standards for seafarers worldwide to enhance maritime safety, prevent marine pollution, and ensure the quality of ship operations. The convention mandates various training programs and competencies, ensuring that crew members are adequately prepared to perform their duties at sea.

Orientation courses for catering personnel on ships are designed to equip staff with essential skills and knowledge for working in a maritime environment. These courses typically cover topics such as food safety and hygiene standards, catering operations, customer service, cultural sensitivity, and emergency procedures.
